Older Domain Names – Do They Rank Higher?

Older Domain Names – Do They Rank Higher?

Although some SEO’s are convinced search engines value older websites more than newer ones. There is no evidence in my opinion that older domain names will improve search engine rankings.

If you watch the video entitled, "How much does a domain’s age affect its ranking?" by Matt Cutt who represents Google (April 2009) you will see Matt answer the question, "How much weight does the number of years a domain is registered for have on your ranking?".

Matt then discusses the relationship between domain age, years of domain registration and search engine rankings. His conclusion, don’t worry about site age. What makes a really big difference is the quality of your site and the sort of links that you have pointing to you.

So to answer the question, do older domain’s rank high, an aged-domain name does not help improve search engine rankings, though the older the web site the more links, articles etc. it should have and hence it should rank more highly in search engines.

Moral of the story, it’s the quality, content and the good links that matters and not the name or age of the web site.

You can research your domain name choices at any of the registrars listed in my article, ‘Where to Register Domain Names". Most of these registrars provide domain name registration, domain name hosting, free domain name search facilities and some even give you a FREE domain name if you accept their domain name hosting package.
