In the first week of August 2013 Elegant Themes conducted a survey of its members to try and discover exactly what theme buyers were looking for in a Premium WordPress theme. What follows are the results of that survey.

• Approximately 1,500 Elegant Themes members completed the questionnaire.

When purchasing a theme, what is most important to you?

Analyzing The Results

From the results it’s clear that Elegant Theme’s customers are split relatively evenly between developers and end-users with developers taking the lions share. Given the high percentage of developers it’s not surprising that business themes are the most popular.

The survey also shows a unambiguous requirement for good design and flexibility, this is what everyone finds most important in a theme. Unsurprisingly, nobody wants themes which lack features and are frustrating to use.

What is surprising is that very few people regarded Security and Technical Support as an important factor when purchasing a theme as most companies would regard these as top priority items.
