Scrolling text, as in scrolling banners or text boxes, have one big flaw. Not everyone reads at the same rate. Using this type of technology forces your visitors to read at whatever speed you deliver the text. This means that those people who read quickly get bored with waiting and those who read slowly get frustrated. You’ve taken control of the page content away from your intended audience. Remember you wrote the page for your visitors, not for you.

Ok, pop-up windows are my pet hate. In fact I’m not too keen on pop-up anything (except maybe toast). Does anyone like pop-up windows? I don’t think so. Unfortunately though, they do work, which is why they are used so very, very often.

If you must use pop-up anything, keep them to a minimum. If you use pop-up windows to ask your visitors to subscribe to your site (very common these days) then only ask once, don’t ask them to subscribe using a pop-up on every page.
