What’s the Problem with CMS?
Everyone who uses a CMS such as WordPress knows there are two major problems. Not with WordPress itself, that’s simply brilliant and getting better everyday. WordPress (free) is an unbelievably good piece of CMS software. No, the problem for users and developers is simply the selection of a suitable theme and appropriate plugins.

Not-so-good: For those who will use the HTML generator, it’s not as good as it could be. It’s good for the design phase because you can instantly see changes without rewriting code but I found Dreamweaver struggles with the Templates.
Not-so-good: Although Artisteer is very intuitive, help is only available via Artisteer’s free user forums.

- The more expensive Standard Edition is worth the extra money. It has more features and custom value dialogue boxes which makes changes much easier.

I don’t think it offers enough flexibility for the money you pay – for the same amount you can pay a web designer to make your page and you don’t have to go through all the trouble fixing compatibility or design issues.
There’s an old saying, “you get what you pay for.” That applies to theme designers also. Sure, you can pay for a custom theme, but go get some prices. Plus you’ll be paying for every little modification, if you don’t educate yourself on modifying WordPress themes.
As you say, for $50 you can get a web designer to create a page, but only one page. With Artisteer you can create as many pages as you wish for your one payment of $50.
Great review, I downloaded the trial version of Artisteer and I absolutely love the functionality and I can see how it will save me a little time over coding a web design from pure scratch. However, how do plugins perform? Can I still use the free plugings from WordPress. Anyone any experience of this?
Plugings work as per normal. You can get your plugins from anywhere including of course the WordPress plugin repository. Though you still have to be careful and do a thorough test of the plugin with your theme. This applies whether it’s an Artisteer theme or otherwise.
