Acronis True Image Review 2014
Best Backup Software

Are you are still trying to backup your systems using the default Windows imaging/system backup utility? If so, have you ever tried a restore after a hard-drive failure?

In this Acronis True Image Review 2014 you’ll discover why Acronis True Image 2014 is the best backup software and the only backup software you’ll ever need.

If you have tried an image system restore using Windows’ built-in utility you’ll already know it is extremely limited and reacts really badly to new hardware. Which is strange when you consider the most likely cause of a system failure is the death and necessary replacement of a hard-drive. Hence the need for programs such as Acronis True Image.

What is Acronis True Image 2014

Acronis True Image 2014 is the next generation of Acronis International’s popular backup tool for Microsoft Windows Users.

It is a powerful way to backup anything from individual files and folders, to single partitions or entire hard drives, plus True Image 2014 now supports backing up your system to Acronis Cloud, the company’s online storage service.

Bare-metal Restore with Diverse Hardware

True Image handles bare-metal restore and diverse hardware without a hiccup. That means you can replace a hard-drive and restore the system with ease after a failure or upgrade.

  • Owners of recent versions of True Image may be wondering if they should upgrade! Well, there’s nothing particularly compelling about this latest version other then the new online service which takes Acronis Backup to the cloud for the first time and the new interface which is far friendlier to use.

Acronis True Image 2014 backup is still the most powerful and feature-rich imaging/backup program on the market and is now far friendlier than it used to be.

Slick New Acronis Backup Interface

Users of previous versions of Acronis backup will be glad to know the poorly rendered dialogs and oddly phrased instructions which had you scratching your head and clicking the help button have gone. The new interface is clean, efficient, and simple. You can now perform a backup without answering a bewildering stream of questions or reaching for the manual.

How has this new, slick interface been achieved? Well the advanced options, which are rarely used, have been hidden away in a very cleanly organized dialog. All the options advanced users want including password protection, sector-by-sector backup, pre- and post-run commands, splitting (or not) of files, and validation are still present but lets face it, once your backup regimen has been defined you don’t really need to change things much.

Acronis Cloud (remote storage) Backup

With True Image 2014 you also get 5GB of Free online, ultra-secure, cloud storage included (enough for data backup) for one year. Just customize access rights and rules then use it to backup, sync, share, or store any type of files or folders.

  • After a year, or for more storage, it will cost $10 per year for 5GB, $30 a year for 50GB and $50 for 250GB. That’s highly competitive pricing.

Personally, I’m not too keen on placing data (encrypted or not) in the hands of others. To place company and customer personal data in the hands of a third party requires an awful lot of trust. So cloud storage, in such cases, would not be used by me for data backup, I’ll stick to external hard drives inside a secure fire safe.

The other problem I find with cloud storage is the need for a fast Internet connection, which I don’t have. On slow connections, it’s suitable to upload documents and photos, but if you’re planning to upload an entire drive images you’re going to need speed, i.e., time to upload 25GB drive image at 10Mbps is almost six hours.

The above having been said, with a fast Internet connection, saving images to Acronis Cloud is no different from saving the data locally to an external drive. Just choose “Online Storage” in the “Destinations” box, enter your cloud user name and password and you’re ready to go.

  • In the event of catastrophic failure (typhoon, hurricane, tsunami) it is an interesting proposition.

Acronis Backup Software Can Jump Through Hoops!

True Image 2014 can perform file and image backups, one-off backups, multiple tracked backups, incremental, differential, scheduling, notifications, and most everything else you need. There’s really no disk imaging trick the True Image doesn’t have in its bag.

  • If your laptop lacks a boot-time recovery option, True Image will provide it.
  • For those requiring ultra security, there’s a full list of secure erase options available.
  • The SecureZone and Try and Decide options are still available.
  • Acronis will also convert to and from Windows backup format should the need arise.

Pros and Cons

Pros: Tons of features, free online backup, even easier to use.

Cons: Rescue media requires 512MB memory, large install footprint.

Is Acronis True Image 2014 a Scam, Hype or Does it Work?

  1. Through their award winning customer support centers, Acronis offer 24/7 assistance to their customers worldwide, plus if you really don’t like the software you can always get your money back.

  2. For those who have issues with the Acronis product, try using Norton (Symantic) backup and become really frustrated. Acronis is heads above any other backup program I have used…sure there are issues…but it always turns out to be the user and not the product…
I have been a Disaster Recovery Specialist for over 40 years (Mainframe, PC’s Servers, etc.) and this i one of the best products available if not the best…no I don’t work for Acronis. Read the documentation on the product and you will have less issues.

  3. I used Acronis True Image 2013 to copy an OS Image to another HDD and it worked very nicely. When it finished it asked me to reboot and it started to transfer the files. It took a couple hours. I was surprised at how easy it was.
