Craigslist Intro
First of all, a quick overview of Craigslist, for those who don’t know what Craigslist is.
Craigslist [www.craigslist.org] is a classified advertisements website with sections devoted to jobs, housing, personals, for sale, items wanted, services, community, gigs, résumés, and discussion forums.
Craig Newmark began the service in 1995 as an email distribution list to friends, featuring local events in the San Francisco Bay Area, before becoming a web-based service in 1996 and expanding into other classified categories. It started expanding to other U.S. cities in 2000, and currently covers 50 countries.
Post an Ad
Okay, let post an item. In this demo I’m going to post an ad for a book.
The first step is to select a demographic location for the Ad.
With the location selected, choose the classified category for the ad from the many presented. In my case I’m posting an ad under books.
- Depending on the type of post, you may be asked to choose additional sub-categories.
After selecting an ad category, you will be present with a page of current classified ads. You can use this as research material.
When you’re ready, click on [post] in the top right hand corner of the page.
This will bring you to the posting type page.
Here you can apply for an Craigslist account if you haven’t done so already. Either way, login to your account.
After logging in, choose the type of posting from the list, in this case it’s, for sale by owner.
Then select a category from the category list. In this case it will be, books and magazines by owner.
Now we can enter the data for our post.
Note this page will vary depending upon the category of your post.
Enter the posting title, this is the post’s name. It will appear in the main list of posts.
Enter the price want for the item and the posting description. You can use basic HTML tags in the body of the post.
If you want to show your location on a map just complet the map details.
When you’re finished writing the post, click the continue button at the bottom of the page.
After entering the post’s title and description you will be prompted to upload images. Click the, Brows or Choose Files, button to start the process.
A window will appear where you can locate the image files stored on your computer. Select the image required.
If the image is uploaded successfully, it will appear in the area below the Brows or Choose Files button. If you have multiple images to upload, simply repeat the process. You can upload upto 12 images to each posting.
When all of your images are uploaded, click the, done with images, button.
You will then be presented with an unpublished draft of your posting.
Make any corrections if necessary and click, Publish.
You will now need to confirm your post via email.
Go to your email provider and click on the link in the email.
Back in Craigslist, you will be presented with a link showing where your posting can be seen, click the link to see the actual online live listing.
