Aabaco (Yahoo Small Business Hosting)
- Yahoo Small Business. Get everything you need for a great website. Intuitive web design tools to help you build your site.
I do believe you’ve heard of Yahoo? Founded in 1994 and now based in Sunnyvale, CA, Yahoo! is obviously extremely well established as a company. Well, their web hosting business now goes by the name Aabaco, though how you pronounce that I don’t know. Their shared web hosting service is aimed squarely at personal and small business users. Larger businesses are not permitted to use the service due to resource concerns. The downside with Aabaco is their pricing structure, I find that it’s overly complex, and you can’t use anything other than their own site builder, so it doesn’t include FTP, a File Manager, Dreamweaver support, WordPress, PHP, MySQL and so on. On the other-hand, if you don’t want this extra complexity then Aabaco is where to register domain names and get your business online.

The above registrars are all ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) accredited and provide gTLDs (global Top Level Domains, i.e., .com, .net, .org, .info, etc.) and ccTLDs (country code Top Level Domains, i.e., .uk, .de, .us, etc.).
There are many more domain name registrars, but these seem to be the most popular and the ones I use regularly for customers. These registrars all provide domain name registration, domain name hosting, free domain name search facilities and some even give you a FREE domain name for life (depending upon what special offer is available at the time of registration).
Where to Register Domain Names and Host Your Website Final Thoughts
There are a lot of places you can register domain names for your business, club or blog. These companies offer essentially identical service but the prices vary from $3 to $40 for a one year registration depending on the domain suffix. Since it doesn’t really matter which reputable registrar you use (be careful about the renewal fee with the less reputable, they may sting you), I recommend choosing the company with the best prices. At the time of writing, that’s currently GoDaddy. Remember, you don’t have to host your domain with the registrar for your domain. Again, at the time of writing, JustHost are offering the best hosting deals.
- GoDaddy was one of the first companies to offer domain name registration at low prices, and they continue with their good deals by offering specials for registering certain domain extensions with added discounts for registering the name for longer than one year. The low price makes it appealing to register your domain name with various extensions, then simply park the domain, in order to keep other people from snapping them up.
If you want a domain name and are not sure if it has already been taken, you can check at a Whois server (keeps track of all the registered domain names). I use GoDaddy Whois simply because I can research and register the domain name in one quick, simple operation (and their very competitive price).
