Stop to Nuisance Phone Calls
To further help in stopping these nuisance phone calls register your numbers with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). This bars unsolicited marketing calls on both a home and mobile number.
Unfortunately the Telephone Preference Service cannot stop calls from companies with whom you already have a relationship, or recorded messages. Call 0845 070 0707 or visit TPS online at http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/ctps/number_type.html for further help.
Don’t Want Marketing Calls?
Don’t opt-in to marketing calls when you are dealing with an organisation for the first time and when giving information online, via telephone or on a paper form.
Consider the information you are giving away carefully. Ask yourself, “do they really need this information to process my …” and be careful with tick boxes. Some firms require you to tick a box to opt out of marketing calls, others ask that you leave it blank.
- If you receive a marketing text message from a company number you know, or from a ‘short code’ number (usually five digits), then text back ‘STOP’.
- If the text is from an unknown number, do not respond. That may tell the sender they have an active number and potentially open number to even more messages, just forward the message to 7726.
